How Does VR Affect My Eligibility for Social Security or SSI Disability Benefits?
If you are engaged in a VR program, the Social Security Administration will not assess your eligibility for disability benefits based on thematical requirements for disability; but, any wages you earn may still have an impact on your eligibility or benefits. State Vocational Rehabilitation Services Program

The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Rehabilitation Act), as amended by Title IV of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act), authorizes the State Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Services Program (WIOA). In this program, funding are awarded to states to help them in the operation of statewide VR programs, each of which is a vital element of a state’s workforce development infrastructure. In accordance with their strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, interests and informed choice, state VR programs provide VR services to individuals with disabilities so that they can prepare for and engage in competitive integrated employment or supported employment, as well as achieve economic self-sufficiency.
It is necessary to give first priority to helping those with the most serious impairments when a state VR agency is unable to serve all eligible individuals at once.
VR organizations often work with companies to improve the number of job possibilities available to people with disabilities.

There is no charge to apply for or to determine if you are qualified for VR services, and we deliver services across the state of Florida. The Social Security Administration (SSI or SSDI) presumes that you are qualified for VR services, and you may be eligible for additional incentives if you have a ” Ticket to Work ” or receive Social Security Administration (SSI or SSDI) payments.

VR Services for Eligible Consumers
A VR Counselor will work with you to develop a goal for competitive, integrated employment that is tailored to your specific talents and abilities, as well as a strategy for obtaining the VR services that will enable you to reach that goal. Some of the services mentioned below may be included in your Individualized Plan for Employment, including:

As part of its collaboration with schools and community groups, VR also provides pre-employment transition services to fulfill the requirements of students who are pursuing a career in the workforce in the future. VR’s pre-employment transition assistance are provided at no charge to students who meet the following criteria:
- Are between the ages of 14 and 21
- Are eligible for special education-related services under IDEA or are considered an individual with a disability under Section 504
- Are enrolled in a traditional or alternative secondary or post-secondary program
- Have a school referral and signed consent form
- And have a school referral and signed consent form.

On the VA website, it states that a Veteran who is eligible for a vocational rehabilitation review under Chapter 31 must first apply for services and then schedule an appointment with a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VRC). The Veteran Resource Center will collaborate with the Veteran to assess whether or not the Veteran has an employment handicap as a result of his or her service-connected condition. If it is determined that the Veteran has an employment impairment and that the Veteran is eligible to assistance, Following the completion of counseling, the Veteran and the VRC will collaborate to select a track of services for the Veteran’s rehabilitation and employment needs.
The Veteran Resource Center and the Veteran will collaborate to put the plan into action in order to help the Veteran achieve his or her employment and/or independent living goals.
If a veteran meets the following criteria, they may be referred to other resources: state vocational rehabilitation programs; Department of Labor employment programs for disabled veterans; state, federal, or local agencies that provide employment or small business development services; internet-based resources that can assist with rehabilitation and employment; and information on how to apply for financial aid.
- Have obtained, or will receive, a discharge that is not considered disgraceful in nature. A service-connected disability rating of at least 10% or a memorandum rating of 20% or more from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) are required. A rehabilitation plan is a written summary of the services, resources, and criteria that will be utilized to help a person attain employment and/or independent living objectives. It is created for each individual. An agreement between the Veteran and the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VRC) that is revised as needed to help the Veteran in achieving his or her goals is known as a plan. Vocational Rehabilitation Services
Individuals with impairments can benefit from the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program, which provides vocational and rehabilitative programs to assist them in preparing for, obtaining, regaining, or maintaining work. Persons with disabilities confront a number of problems in today’s contemporary workplace, which are listed below. We think that persons with disabilities can work and be fully integrated into mainstream society and the workplace if they are provided with the appropriate opportunity.
VR services are available to those who have a physical or mental handicap that prevents them from finding or keeping work; who are able to benefit from VR services in terms of employment; and who require VR services in order to prepare for, enter, engage in, or retain employment. People with the most serious impairments are given first priority in the selection process. Once eligibility has been determined, a vocational rehabilitation counselor will assist the individual in developing an Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE).
RSA provides comprehensive rehabilitation services to assist people with disabilities in obtaining employment.
RSA aids people with disabilities in obtaining and sustaining work by creating and maintaining personal relationships with local company owners and managers.
DDS RSA will ensure that you (or your representative) have access to information and support services that will assist you in making an educated decision about your care. Your counselor will tell you about the options that are available to you and the possibilities to make an informed decision using the most suitable channels of communication.
